Renowned airline Goldstar Air, the belly of America and wings of Ghana, says it will serve as an engine of national development by creating over two million direct and indirect jobs to break the chain of illegal mining, locally known as galamsey, and to achieve its Project $1 Trillion foreign reserve goal.
The airline says every aircraft that takes off will support an extensive network of professionals including pilots, engineers, dispatchers, cabin crew, ground handlers, cargo specialists, IT experts, meteorologists, caterers, okada riders, hoteliers, freight forwarders, travel consultants, farmers, manufacturers and small businesses that form its 24-hour economic ecosystem.
Goldstar Air argues that its long-term initiative demonstrates how aviation can become one of Ghana’s most effective weapons against galamsey. Instead of energetic youth seeking uncertain livelihoods through environmental destruction, the airline aims to open pathways to productive employment, entrepreneurship and economic independence.
According to the airline, many young men and women engage in galamsey because of economic hardship, unemployment and the struggle to provide for families, where immediate financial gain overshadows long-term environmental consequences. Breaking the cycle, it says, demands industries capable of absorbing large numbers of workers and generating sustainable prosperity.
The US and Ghanaian-registered airline, holder of Air Carrier Licence (ACL/N-SCH No. 0239) from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority to operate West African and intercontinental passenger and cargo services, says its initiative extends far beyond aviation into industrial growth, tourism, trade and agricultural exports.
Goldstar Air is therefore calling on the Director-General of GCAA, Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, to task the Safety Department to engage a qualified third party to finalize its wide-body Safety Certification (AOC) process. The airline says it is ready to pay the administrative fee and that a meeting to agree a Schedule of Events can be resolved in 20 minutes, enabling its aircraft to be registered under the Ghana Aircraft Registry.
The airline commended President John Dramani Mahama for his bold reorganization of state institutions and recent dissolution of boards on September 2, 2026, as announced by Secretary to the President Dr. Callistus Mahama, saying discipline, accountability and effective leadership must extend to the GCAA to align with government’s Resetting Ghana agenda.
Illegal mining, Goldstar Air notes, has evolved into a complex national crisis threatening water bodies including the Pra, Offin, Ankobra, Birim and Oda rivers, forest reserves, fertile farmlands and public health. Enforcement alone cannot provide a sustainable solution.

Every young person who secures dignified work becomes an ambassador for progress and a protector of the environment, aligning with Ghana’s aspiration to replace environmental degradation with sustainable jobs.
The Ghana Hotels Association has revealed the impact of galamsey on hospitality, with Second Vice President Benjamin Afunya stating that members are forced to import fish and vegetables because guests no longer trust local fish due to polluted rivers, increasing operational costs even with a stable cedi.
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, during a September 3, 2026 visit to the Ankobra River to assess Operation Water Shield by NAIMOS and Navy Special Forces, pledged to fight galamsey with integrity and to target sponsors and financiers behind excavators and chanfans.
Goldstar Air says it will introduce a biweekly universal pay structure in US dollars, with end-of-year profit sharing and global sales channeled through the central bank before payments, to support Ghana’s foreign reserves and avoid future IMF returns, similar to how boxer David Kotei “Poison” supported the economy in 1976.
The airline’s economic model will stimulate demand for thousands of skilled and semi-skilled workers and connect regions and international markets. Its impact will extend beyond airports to suppliers, manufacturers, educational institutions and tourism operators, with each stable job improving household access to education, healthcare and financial security.
Farmers cultivating fruits, vegetables, herbs and seafood will benefit from expanded cargo capacity connecting Ghanaian products to international markets. When agriculture becomes more profitable through efficient air-cargo logistics, many youth will choose farming as a respected profession over galamsey, preserving fertile land and enhancing food security.
Tourism will also create alternatives, as every tourist arriving creates opportunities across hotels, restaurants, transport, craft markets and tour operations. Communities will recognize that clean rivers, forests and landscapes attract visitors and generate sustainable income through eco-tourism, making conservation an economic opportunity.
Education and skills development form another pillar, with Goldstar Air’s aviation training school preparing students for careers as pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, air traffic controllers and cabin crew. The US currently has 617,000 active pilots and Nigeria has 2,133 licensed pilots, showing the potential Ghana must emulate.
The airline notes the psychological impact of meaningful employment in restoring dignity, providing regular income, safety, pensions, healthcare and profit-sharing, compared to galamsey’s dangerous conditions, chemical exposure and unstable income, encouraging savings, home ownership and civic participation.
Goldstar Air will also support Ghanaian travel agencies, noting over 90% lack international billing systems due to the $50,000 bank guarantee requirement. The airline will introduce a billing system accepting any deposit and offer seed money to agencies registered with the Ghana Tourism Authority for over a year under its Project $1 Trillion reserves.
Ultimately, the airline says it is not merely connecting destinations but reimagining Ghana’s development, where national wealth resides in human talent rather than mineral wealth. Every job created weakens the economic forces sustaining galamsey, with rivers flowing clearly again and communities prospering through industries that preserve the environment.
Goldstar Air will initially launch flights to eighteen destinations including Washington, Dubai, Lagos, Toronto, Monrovia, Conakry, Abidjan, Guangzhou, Dakar, Banjul, Rhode Island, Rome, Madrid, Hamburg, London, Düsseldorf, Milan, and Freetown, plus Hajj flights to Saudi Arabia, with future destinations including Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Glasgow and Houston.
