Cutting and Pruning
He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. John 15:2
In John 15:1, Jesus emphatically declares that He is the vine and that the Father is the vinedresser.
Jesus is therefore the source of our fruitfulness, while God is the One who works on us and in us so that our lives may bear fruit.
As the vinedresser, God removes the branches that do not bear fruit and prunes those that are already bearing fruit so that they may bear even more fruit.
God desires that everyone who is connected to Jesus bears fruit. To bear fruit is to demonstrate evidence of Christlikeness in our character, behaviour, and conduct.
God will continually work on us until the evidence of Jesus’ character becomes increasingly visible in our lives.
God’s pruning may not always be comfortable, but it is necessary for our growth and transformation into Christlikeness. There may be certain challenges we go through that are part of God’s pruning process. While we may not always understand or appreciate the process, we can trust that God is working in us for His purpose.
When we submit ourselves to God’s pruning, the life and character of Jesus become increasingly evident through us.
As we abide in Jesus and bear fruit, God continues to prune us so that we can bear more fruit. May we remain connected to the Vine and willingly submit to the work of the Vinedresser. Shalom.
Prayer: Pray that God will continually prune you so that the life and character of Christ Jesus will be increasingly revealed through you.
