The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as “Akofena,” has voluntarily surrendered himself to assist investigations into the shooting incident that occurred on Sunday, 21 June 2026, involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
According to police sources, Akofena presented himself at the Regional Police Headquarters on Monday, 22 June 2026, following ongoing investigations into the incident.
He was subsequently transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters for further questioning.
Investigators later carried out searches at the suspect’s residence in Kwabenya and on a vehicle linked to him. During the operation, police recovered a substantial quantity of ammunition, including rounds of 9mm, .45 calibre and .40 calibre ammunition.
The search also led to the discovery of multiple loaded magazines and two Glock pistols. Police indicated that one of the firearms recovered is legally registered in the suspect’s name, while investigations continue into the ownership and use of the other weapon.
As part of efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting, police expanded their investigation, leading to the arrest of two additional individuals believed to have connections to the case.
The two suspects have been identified as Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson. Authorities say both men are currently assisting investigators with inquiries related to the incident.
Police have not yet disclosed the specific roles allegedly played by the suspects, stressing that investigations remain active and several aspects of the case are still being examined.
The shooting incident, which reportedly involved former lawmaker Sarah Adwoa Safo, has generated significant public interest and heightened security concerns within the Dome-Kwabenya area and beyond.
Law enforcement officials have assured the public that every lead is being pursued and that all persons found to have breached the law will be dealt with in accordance with established legal procedures.
The Police Service further reiterated its commitment to conducting a thorough, impartial and professional investigation to establish the full facts surrounding the incident.
All three suspects remain in police custody as investigators continue to gather evidence and record statements from relevant persons connected to the matter.
Authorities say the suspects are expected to be arraigned before court on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, where the legal process will formally commence.
The Police Service has urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while investigations continue, assuring that updates will be provided as the case progresses.
The development marks a significant step in the ongoing probe, with investigators hopeful that the surrender of the principal suspect and the subsequent arrests will help clarify the circumstances leading to the shooting incident.
