The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board [GMMB]’s mandate is to make sure Ghana’s tangible heritage is identified, protected, conserved, documented, researched, interpreted and made available for education and public appreciation.
This is important when discussing tourism—and especially the flagship Black Star Experience—because GMMB is not merely a museum operator.
Its mandate covers the heritage assets themselves—including forts and castles, archaeological sites, traditional buildings, monuments, artefacts and museums—which can subsequently be developed and presented as cultural-tourism experiences.
GMMB’s statutory focus is particularly on material/tangible cultural heritage.
How is the reset agenda fairing in there—in implementing the Black Star Experience programme by the government; which seeks to make Ghana a preferred tourism destination in the sub region?
