The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) has intensified its advocacy for disability inclusion by engaging the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, on the sidelines of the 2026 National Labour Conference in Ho.

The meeting underscored the Federation’s commitment to forging stronger partnerships with government institutions to promote the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities across the country.

The engagement took place during the National Labour Conference, being held from June 26 to June 28, 2026, at the Volta Serene Hotel under the theme, “Strengthening Industrial Harmony as a Catalyst for Accelerated Economic Growth and Development.”

The annual conference has convened government officials, employers, organised labour, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to deliberate on key issues affecting Ghana’s labour landscape.

The GFD delegation used the opportunity to formally introduce its leadership to the Volta Regional Minister while outlining the Federation’s ongoing advocacy efforts aimed at advancing disability inclusion, equal opportunities and accessible development across all sectors of society.

Welcoming the delegation, Hon. James Gunu commended the Federation for its unwavering commitment to championing the interests of persons with disabilities and assured members of his readiness to collaborate with them in promoting inclusive development within the Volta Region.

“I am pleased to welcome the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations to the Volta Region. My office remains open, and I look forward to working closely with you to ensure that no one is left behind in our development agenda,” Hon. Gunu said.

The Regional Minister further stressed that inclusive governance requires active collaboration with organisations representing vulnerable groups, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved when every citizen is given equal opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national progress.

“We must continue to build a society where persons with disabilities are recognised not for their limitations but for their abilities and contributions. Together, we can make the Volta Region a model of inclusion and equal opportunity,” he added.

Speaking after the meeting, a representative of the GFD delegation expressed appreciation for the Minister’s warm reception and willingness to engage with the Federation, describing the interaction as a significant step towards strengthening cooperation between disability advocacy groups and regional authorities.

“We are encouraged by the Minister’s openness and commitment to inclusion. This engagement reinforces our belief that partnerships with regional leadership are essential in advancing policies and programmes that improve the lives of persons with disabilities,” the GFD representative noted.

The interaction forms part of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations’ broader strategy to deepen collaboration with government institutions, development partners and other stakeholders in promoting disability-inclusive governance.

The Federation believes sustained dialogue and partnerships will play a crucial role in ensuring that persons with disabilities are fully represented in national and regional development initiatives while contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s socio-economic transformation.
