The newly created Ghana TVET Service, as part of its effort and the government’s agenda to revamp the technical educational sector, has held a massive float in the capital.

The exercise which took place on Monday, 13th December 2021 was in accordance with educating the public, students, and the communities on the existence of the TVET Service and its benefits.

The TVET has enormous potential for moving Ghana’s economy forward.

The skills development system has the capacity to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the country’s skilled workforce.

It also has the potential to raise the income-earning capacities of low-income groups.

In an interview with the media, the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana TVET Service, Mr. David Prah stated that the TVET is the bedrock of every country’s development.

According to him, the program will propel Ghanaians and students to greater heights.

“The TVET program is a different landscape that will prepare you for employable skills, prepares you for entrepreneurial development, prepares you to earn a living. So the TVET is a different program on its own”, he stated.

He added that the program has been scheduled to begin in some selected Junior High schools across the country.

He again added that a system of certification has been deployed for all applicants and individuals.

“We also have a Competency of Certification System, where a university graduate, SHS graduate will have the opportunity to acquire skills to earn a living. And we will issue a certificate of competence in the trade area so that it will be recognized at a TVET institution,” he said.

Expressing their thoughts about the initiative, some students of the Accra Technical Training Institute stated that the TVET program has come at the right time and is a step in the right direction to also curb the rate of unemployment among the youths.

The float which attracted huge student attendance with strict adherence to all covid-19 protocols started from the premises of ATTC went through Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Newtown, Top FM through the Mallam Attah market and back.

The students were seen with placards with various inscriptions such as “Free TVET is here”, “Your Skills Define your Future”, “Get a Skill Now” and among others.

The official launch of the Ghana TVET Service on the theme “Stirring Ghana’s Industrialization Drive Through Skill Acquisition For National Development” has been slated for today Tuesday, 14th December 2021 in Accra.
