Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah, a stalwart of the opposition NDC and a prominent former diplomat has launched a scathing critique against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana, describing him as “unserious, clueless, and ignorant.”

According to the former diplomat the question about who Ghanaians will like to see lead the country should not be a matter just on the economy, employment, education and healthcare but “crucially on character”

Ankrah’s remarks add to the mounting political tensions as the country moves closer to its next general elections.

His comments come at a critical time as Ghana’s political landscape heats up ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah, it can be said, is not letting his views on the current Vice-President and Flagbearer of the National Patriotic Party, Dr. Bawumia go to rest.

In his serial interviews about the coming general elections, the NDC stalwart seem to reiterate that “character is very vital in the coming elections and the current Vice-President Dr. Bawumia is unserious, clueless and ignorant through his consistent displays of lack of seriousness, responsibility and awareness in his thoughts, words and actions that lacks accountability and someone who is always seeking attention or validation to things or promises that has procrastinated or not followed through under his watch” Mr. Ankrah said.

Ankrah expressed frustration with Dr. Bawumia’s handling of critical national issues, particularly his approach to managing the economy.

“The Vice President has shown time and again that he is unserious when it comes to the affairs of this country.

…His policies reflect a profound lack of understanding of the complexities of the economy and its impact on the lives of ordinary Ghanaians,” Ankrah stated.

He continued by alleging that Dr. Bawumia’s policies are not only misguided but have also contributed to the current economic hardships facing the nation.

According to Ankrah, the Vice President and NPP Presidential Candidate’s ignorance of economic fundamentals has worsened the cost of living, inflation, and unemployment.

He suggested that Bawumia’s background as an economist has not translated into practical solutions for the pressing problems of the country.

“Instead of focusing on real issues affecting the people, Dr. Bawumia has been more focused on political rhetoric and gimmicks,” Mr. Ankrah emphasized adding that “He is either clueless about the real challenges or simply doesn’t care enough to address them.

….Dr. Bawumia, once praised for his economic expertise, has faced increasing criticism in recent months due to the country’s rising debt levels, currency depreciation, and persistent inflation.

His leadership of the Economic Management Team has come under fire, with opposition leaders and even some analysts questioning the effectiveness of his policies.”

He further argued that the Vice President’s failure to deliver on his promises has disillusioned many Ghanaians who once had high hopes for economic transformation.

“We were promised a more robust economy, but what we have is a deepening crisis,” Ankrah added.
