PRESS STATEMENT
Labour Day Commendation and Call to Action from PRINPAG
On this significant occasion of Labour Day, the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association (PRINPAG) extends its heartfelt felicitations to the entire inky fraternity and the dedicated workforce of Ghana.
We salute every journalist, designer, videographer, and auxiliary staff member who toils behind the scenes to keep the nation informed.
We acknowledge that you operate under strained and often precarious conditions—where resources are limited, yet the demand for excellence remains high. Your commitment to service despite these pressures is the bedrock of our fourth estate.
In these challenging times, we encourage all media professionals to remain steadfast. The temptions to cut corners are many, but we urge you to cling tenaciously to the ethics of our profession. Truth, objectivity, fairness, and accountability must remain our guiding stars. It is only by upholding these principles that we can safeguard the public trust, which is our most valuable currency.
To the publishers and media owners, we say this: a tired and demoralized workforce can not build a strong industry.
We urge you to critically and urgently consider improving the service conditions of your workers, including fair remuneration, safety guarantees, and opportunities for growth. Investing in your people is the surest way to invest in the sustainability of your enterprise.
Finally, we appeal to Corporate Ghana. Do not treat the media as mere advertising billboards. See us as essential partners in development and democratic governance.
The media provides the oxygen for democracy scrutinizing power, amplifying voices, and fighting corruption. We ask that you support us through ethical advertising, prompt payments, and partnership. Let there be no mistake: the death of the media would lead directly to the death of democracy.
CONCLUSION
As we mark Labour Day, let us renew our collective resolve to work harder, smarter, and unitedly for a better Ghana.
Happy Labour Day to all Ghanaian workers.
Signed:
David Tamakloe
